Eat to Perform: Fuel Your Body — Oct 14

Your body is doing a lot.
It’s lifting. It’s running. It’s recovering. It’s building muscle. It’s getting you through work, family, workouts — and everything in between.
So your nutrition should give it the tools to do all of that.
Stop Eating Less, Start Eating to Perform
Most nutrition advice starts in the wrong place: restriction. Eat less. Cut that. Avoid this. Skip dinner. Earn your food with cardio.
Here’s the problem with that approach: your body isn’t a math problem. It’s a performance machine — and machines need fuel.
At CrossFit Notch 8, we think about food differently. Think less about “eating less” and more about eating well. Eat to perform — not just to weigh less, not just to look different. When you fuel the work, the results take care of themselves.
The Building Blocks of Eating to Perform
You don’t need a complicated diet plan. You need the basics, done consistently:
Plenty of protein. Protein repairs and builds muscle — the stuff you’re tearing down in every workout. Prioritize it at every meal.
Fruits and vegetables. Micronutrients, fiber, and volume. The colorful stuff does the quiet work of keeping you healthy and helping you recover.
Quality carbohydrates. Carbs are workout fuel. Brown rice, oats, potatoes, fruit — carbs power your lifting sessions, your runs, and your recovery.
Healthy fats. Fats support hormones, brain function, and satiety. Don’t fear them — just choose the good ones.
Plenty of water. Dehydration kills performance faster than almost anything else. Drink water all day, not just during your workout.
Enough sleep. Sleep is when the recovery actually happens. Fuel plus rest equals results.
Fuel the Work. Recover Well.
Here’s the mindset shift: build your nutrition around what you want your body to be able to DO — not what you want it to weigh. Want to lift heavier? Recover faster? Have energy for your kids after work? Eat like someone who does those things.
Fuel the work. Recover well. Become unstoppable.
