Member Monday: Meet Katie

Every Monday, we shine a light on one of the people who make Notch 8 what it is. This week: Katie.
Katie is a proud member of The XII and part of our 5:15 AM crew — yes, the crew that trains before the sun comes up. She’s been with us for two years, she’s always up for a challenge (especially if it involves running), and she brings the kind of steady, encouraging energy that makes early mornings worth it.
We sat down with Katie to hear her story in her own words.
Tell us about yourself — family, job, hobbies
I’m married with two kids (ages 24 and 17) and three dogs. I work for an orthopedic implant company as their Controller. Outside the gym, my favorite thing to do is travel — I also enjoy running, reading, puzzling, and hiking.
How long have you been at Notch 8?
Two years.
What do you love about Notch 8?
I love the people the most. I guarantee I wouldn’t show up as much as I do without that accountability (and the stickers).
That’s the thing about 5:15 AM — nobody does it alone. The crew keeps each other honest, and the coaches know exactly when to push and when to pull back.
What is your favorite movement or WOD?
My favorite movement is the hang clean.
What is your favorite Notch 8 memory?
One of my favorites is when my husband and I played in — and won — the Euchre tournament. (Editor’s note: they demolished everyone!)
What advice would you give to someone hesitant to try CrossFit?
Just show up. Once you’re here, you won’t regret it. The coaches are the best, the other members are fun to work out with, and no matter your skill level, you can still do the workout. I have to modify almost every workout and no one cares or judges — we’re all just happy you’re there working on yourself.
Your Turn
Katie’s story is a lot of our members’ story: show up, find your people, and let the rest take care of itself. If you’ve been thinking about trying CrossFit in the Avon area, come see what the Notch 8 community is all about — we’d love to meet you.
